Welcome to Troop 525's Website!


Welcome to the website of Troop 525 in Peachtree Corners, GA! Chartered with eight boys in August 1984 Troop 525 is boy-led and each is required to hold leadership positions as he advances in rank. The troop meets each Monday night, while school is in session, beginning at 7:30 PM at Simpsonwood United Methodist Church (SUMC) 4500 Jones Bridge Circle, Peachtree Corners, GA 30092. This site contains information for the scouts, parents, members and volunteers of our troop. Visitors are always welcome. Come join us!

Boys who are older than 10, or who have completed the fifth grade can join the Boy Scouting program.  Cub Scouting is for boys in the first through fifth grades, or 7 to 10 years of age. For information about Cub Scouts please contact Pack 525 (pack525cubmaster @ gwinnettbsa dot org).

Light Up the Corners - Service Hours Opportunity

Please come out and assist with the Light Up the Corners race on Saturday, August 11.  There are many opportunities if you need individual hours, but the items below are the ones that we are requesting scout help with:

   - Race Bag Stuffers (Wed, 8/8/18, 2pm - 6pm in the YMCA Senior Center)
   - Event Set Up (Sat, 8/11/18, 2pm - 7pm)
   - Cone Set Up (Sat, 8/11/18, 7pm - 8:30pm)
   - Neighborhood Entrance Cheer Zones (Sat, 8/11/18, 8:30pm - 9:45pm)
   - Wooden bridge on East Jones Bridge to keep runners off the bridge and on the road (8:30pm - 9:45pm)

For cheer zones and wooden bridge:
   - Attire is Class A.  Please represent Scout Troop 525 in a positive way.  Cheer for runners.
   - Bring:  water, mosquito spray, bright flashlights

Seabase 2019 Planning Meeting

If you are interested in Seabase 2019, or if you are already signed up to go to Seabase, please plan on attending a planning meeting on August 13.  While this is a busy time with school starting even if the Scouts cannot attend, please try to have a family representative at the meeting.

Troop 525 will be sending three crews to Seabase Out Island Adventure summer of 2019:
   -  Crew Curly: 5/27/19 – 6/2/19
   -  Crew Larry: 5/27/19 – 6/2/19
   -  Crew Moe: 6/2/19 – 6/8/19

Each crew will have 8 members, typically 6 Scouts and 2 Leaders.  There are currently five remaining slots.  Two of these will need to be adult leaders; the other three can be leaders or youth. 

Each Scout attending should be ready to advise on 2 other Scouts they would like to be in a crew with for the trips. Also we will need input on which are the preferred dates (or no preference).

Concerning the age for the trip - our troop tradition has been for all participants to have completed the 8th grade / and or be 14 years old before attending High Adventure trips.

All leaders will need to be registered with the troop, have an updated BSA Medical form parts ABC, be current in updated YPT training, take the Wilderness First Aid training (WFA), and have current CPR certification.  Also, all participants will need to be able to pass the standard BSA swim test and be certified as a swimmer.  It is recommended that you take the Fall WFA course, as the Spring course is popular and may fill up.

New Version of YPT-Actions req for all adults

Adults,  there is an updated version of Youth Protection training (YPT) that has been released.  Giving you a heads up now, as this replaces all previous YPT versions, and requires ALL volunteers (THIS INCLUDES DRIVERS) to complete BEFORE OCTOBER 1, 2018. Training available - https://my.scouting.org/

All regsitered leaders, drivers and  adults going on a campout must be YPT trained. Please take the training when you can, so it isn’t a rush later in the year to beat the deadline. It doesn’t matter when you took the previous version, it will not be considered valid after October 1,2018.
