This list of adult positions is subject to change as the needs
of the troop change, and the resources available to fill them change.
ADMINISTRATION
1. Troop Committee Chairperson
 | Organize the committee to see that all functions are delegated,
coordinated and completed |
 | Maintain a close relationship with the chartered organization
representative and the Scoutmaster |
 | Call, preside over, and promote attendance at monthly troop committee
meetings and any special meetings that may be called |
2. Assistant to the Committee
Chairperson for Administration
 | Assist Committee Chairperson with general administration duties as
necessary |
 | See that troop leaders and committee members have training opportunities |
 | Act as Committee Chairperson in his/her absence |
 | Coordinating adults and other resources for troop and committee events |
3. Assistant to the Committee
Chairperson for Programs
 | Ensure troop representation at monthly roundtables |
 | Interpret national and local policies to the troop |
 | Work closely with the Scoutmaster in preparing troop committee meeting
agendas |
 | Coordinating planning for scheduled outings and events |
4. Secretary
 | Keep minutes of meetings and send out committee meeting notices |
 | Arrange for charter review and recharter annually |
 | Prepare information for the family newsletter of troop events and
activities |
 | Conduct the troop resource survey |
 | Plan for family night programs and family activities |
5. Website Manager
 | Collects program information, outing reports, advancement reports from
scoutmasters, outings, boy leaders, advancement chairperson, etc. |
 | Edits, produces, maintains troop web site |
 | Handles publicity |
6. Chartered Organization
Representative
 | Is a member of the chartered organization |
 | Secures a troop committee chairperson and encourages training |
 | Maintains a close liaison with troop committee chairperson |
 | Helps recruit other adult leaders |
 | Serves as liaison between the troop and the organization |
 | Assists with unit rechartering |
 | Encourages service to the organization |
 | Is an active and involved member of the district committee |
 | Plan the charter presentation program |
 | Coordinates Scout Sunday activities |
7. Chaplain

 | Provides a spiritual tone for troop meetings and activities |
 | Give guidance to the chaplain aide to ensure a Sunday service for every
campout |
 | Promote regular participation in activities of the religious organization
of scout's choice |
 | Visits homes of Scouts in time of sickness or need |
 | Gives spiritual counseling service when needed or required |
 | Encourages Boy Scouts to earn their appropriate religious emblems |
 | Provides opportunities for Boy Scouts to grow in their duty to God and the
fellow Scouts |
 | Work with Committee Chairperson to insure appropriate adult leaders are
appointed to lead scouts |
FINANCE
8. Treasurer
 | IT IS CRITICAL THAT THERE BE A TREASURER OR REPRESENTATIVE AT |
 | EACH TROOP MEETING AND EACH TROOP COMMITTEE MEETING |
 | Handle all troop funds. Pay bills on recommendation of the Scoutmaster and
authorization of the troop committee |
 | Maintain checking and savings accounts |
 | Prepare a list of outing participants at the sign-up deadline and provide
it to the Scoutmaster, Transportation Chairperson and Outing Chairperson |
 | Train and supervise the troop scribe in record keeping |
 | Supervise the camp savings plan |
 | Report to the troop committee at each meeting on spending, current
balances and upcoming or pending requirements for funds |
 | Lead in the preparation of the annual troop budget |
9. Assistant Treasurer
 | Assists the treasurer in all activities and shares the responsibilities |
 | Attends troop meetings to collect money when the treasurer is unavailable |
 | Represents the troop at other meetings as necessary |
10. Fund Raising
Chairperson
 | Manages all aspects of fund-raising activities |
 | Works with the Treasurer to coordinate authorizations and permits as
needed |
 | Is in charge of staffing and participation for fund-raising events |
 | Supervise money-earning projects, including obtaining proper
authorizations |
ADVANCEMENT
11. Advancement Chairperson
 | Encourage Scouts to advance in rank |
 | Coordinate monthly troop boards of review in conjunction with the Board of
Review Chairperson |
 | Coordinate courts of honor, at least three times a year ( Sept., Feb.,
June ) in coordination with the Court of Honor Chairperson |
 | Coordinate a merit badge counselor list in coordination with the Merit
Badge Counselor Coordinator(s) |
 | Make a prompt report on the correct form to the council service center
when a troop board of review is held. Secure badges and certificates. |
 | Work with the troop scribe to maintain all Scout advancement records |
 | Work with the troop librarian to build and maintain a troop library of
merit badge pamphlets |
 | Coordinate NESA Day participation |
12. Life-to-Eagle
Coordinator
 | Coaches Life Scouts on Eagle service projects |
 | Reviews scout's project synopsis as to suitability and advises revisions
as necessary |
 | Monitors progress on projects NOTE: Eagle service projects are the SCOUT'S
RESPONSIBILITY. The coordinator acts only as coach and advisor. |
13. Board of Review
Chairperson
 | Recruits adults and conducts all boards of review on a monthly or as
scheduled basis |
 | Reports results to the Advancement Chairperson |
 | Advises scoutmasters and troop committee of any issues that may surface |
 | Obtains advancement reports from the Advancement Chairperson |
14. Court of Honor
Committee
 | Coordinates with the Advancement Chairperson to schedule, arrange and run
courts of honor |
 | Gets advancement reports and works with scouts needing Communications
Merit Badge to develop a script for the court of honor |
 | Manages rehearsals and assures awards and supplies are ready |
 | Recruits adults to assist in awards |
15. Merit Badge Counselor
Coordinator(s)
 | Work under the direction of the Advancement Chairperson to encourage
Scouts to advance in rank |
 | Work with the Scoutmaster to coordinate the recording and approval of
merit badge activities |
 | Recruits counselors and maintains a list of counselors for referral to
boys |
 | Coaches the scout librarian with the merit badge book library |
ACTIVITIES
16. Camping Committee
 | Supervise and help procure camp equipment |
 | Help in securing permission to use camping sites |
 | Encourage monthly outdoor activities or special events |
 | Coordinate as necessary with the Logistics Assistant Scoutmaster |
 | Promote the National Camping Award |
 | Promote, through family meetings, attendance at troop campouts, camporees,
and summer camp to reach the goal of an outing per month |
 | Arrange all camping, hiking outings |
 | Previsits and screen sites for suitability and secures tour permits and
copies of maps |
 | Attends events and assists scoutmasters in weekend |
17. Special Trip
Committee/Outdoor Activities (non-camping)
 | Arranges all logistics, bookings, reservations for all non-camping trips |
18. Transportation
Committee
 | Arranges and coordinates parent transportation for all outings |
19. Phone Committee
 | Assists scoutmasters and troop committee in telephoning scouts and parents
to determine participation in outings and other planned events such as troop
committee meetings and courts of honor |
20. Health and Safety
Committee
 | Insures that all medical reports and troop liability forms are current and
available for each boy for every outing |
 | Tracks down missing forms from drivers |
 | Inspects first aid kits |
 | Finds nearest Emergency Medical Service for each trip |
21. Friends of Scouting (SME)
 | Coordinates participation in the Atlanta Area Council fund-raiser to
benefit scout camps, etc. |
 | Presents the SME program at the Scout Week dinner and distributes and
collects pledges |
 | Submits reports to council |
 | Attends district SME training and kickoff meetings |
22. Scout Show Ticket
Manager
 | Manages the promotion and sales of Scout Show tickets for the annual
council Scout Show |
 | This could be an important fund-raiser for the troop |
23. Uniform Exchange
 | Maintains the inventory of donated uniform items for the troop |
 | Publishes or otherwise disseminates information on the available inventory |
 | Solicits donations of outgrown or un-needed uniform items |
24. Scouting for Food
 | Attends Scouting for Food District training and gets materials |
 | Coordinates activities of boys scouting for food |
 | Manages collection and delivery of food |
 | Recognizes participants as appropriate during a Court of Honor |

26. Scout Banquet
Coordinator
 | Coordinates the selection and booking of the facility for the banquet |
 | Coordinates the selection, purchase and delivery of food/catering for the
banquet |
 | Coordinates with the Scoutmaster, Advancement Chairperson and Court of
Honor Chairperson on the program and events for the banquet |
 | Arranges annual Christmas party |
27. New Scout
Hut Chairperson
 | Coordinate the design and fund-raising for a new facility for the troop. |
 | Get volunteers to staff the adult positions necessary to build a new
facility. |
SCOUTMASTERS

boy leaders and the Scoutmaster to correct problems as they arise |
30. Assistant Scoutmasters -
New Scout Advancement

 | Assists the Scoutmaster by focusing on the specific needs of new scouts |
 | Assures that advancement opportunities are available and coordinated |
 | Works with new scouts to assure smooth integration with patrols and all
older scouts |
31. Assistant Scoutmasters -
Administration
 | Handles administrative coordination for the Scoutmaster with other troop
management activities and responsibilities |
 | Prepares the annual calendar and books summer camp |
 | Coordinates with Assistant Scoutmasters to ensure coverage at all troop
activities. |
32. Assistant Scoutmasters -
Logistics
 | Minimum of 2 people in this position |
 | Assures that the trailer is maintained and ready for all outings |
 | Procures food and other items as necessary for adults on outings |
 | Assists Patrol Leaders in meal planning prior to outings |
 | Helps direct the activities of scout quartermasters in preparation of and
during outings |
33. Assistant Scoutmasters -
Advancement
 | Coordinates with the Advancement Chairperson and Life to Eagle Coordinator |
 | Assists the Scoutmaster by focusing on the specific needs of new scouts |
 | Assures that advancement opportunities are available and coordinated |
34. Assistant Scoutmasters -
High Adventure
 | Maintain training certification necessary to instruct scouts in high
adventure activities |
 | Assist the Scoutmaster in planning, scheduling and implementing high
adventure outings |
35. Assistant Scoutmasters -
Patrols (See the Parents page for a current list
of patrol ASM's.)
 | Work directly with the Scoutmaster in directing, leading and teaching boy
leaders |
 | Assists the Scoutmaster during meetings with events and exercises |
 | Work individually with patrol members on advancement and related learning |
36. Unit Commissioner
